Handy techniques with a personal touch – sewing, embroidery, beading, printing, dyeing, weaving, upholstery, surface treatments and breaking down (of fabric / costumes!) for a variety of applications.

Hands on textile services

As well as producing her own designs Barley Massey has been working on a number of other projects on a freelance basis. With over 10 years experience, Barley has a wide knowledge of different textile techniques including hand + machine sewing, embroidery + surface embellishment, printing, dying + breaking down, weaving, rope making, knotting + knitting, pattern cutting and much more! One of her main clients for this type of work is Sands Films based in Rotherhithe, London who specialise in period costumes production and hire for the film industry. Some examples of textiles produced for Gormenghast (BBC) through Sands Films, including appliquéd parrots, pleated headdresses and scorched patterned velvet.
