Workshops / Teaching

As well as our crafty classes we run at Fabrications, for all abilities – beginners to experienced, currently on Sunday afternoons (visit our BLOG for details and dates) we have also provided workshops and hands on activities at a number of local outdoor events including at The Spice Festival, Paradise Gardens, Newham Lord Mayor’s show, Camden Green Fair to name a few. We have also been invited to provide creative activities at various museums including The Barbican, The Royal Festival Hall and Hackney Museum.

We can tailor activities and techniques to meet your objectives, themes and target group. We also have tried and tested workshops:

BIG knit Knitting on GIANT knitting needles and French knitting stools.

Knitting with re used plastic bags Demonstration of how to cut up a plastic bag into a continuous strip then create a small item such as a purse, mps or phone cover.

From Rags to Riches How to create rag yarn from old clothes and transform into new items through knitting, weaving and rag rugging.

Recycled rosettes / badges / medals customise your outfit and walk away with a unique textile pin on! We provide an inspiring pick n mix of reused fabrics, ribbons, buttons, sequins and more.

Remember Me to coincide with Barley Massey’s commissioning service ‘Remember Me’ this is a taster workshop for participants interested in looking at clothing / textiles which hold sentimental value and memories to create a small memento.

Here is an example of another workshop we organised:
3rd Recycling Art Festival, Berlin
recycling art festival 3Barley Massey, Lizzie Clark (Metal vivant, France) and Yogo (Crowzone, UK) invited visitors to the festival in creating a large ‘Tarmat’ on the theme of road signs and symbols made from recycled materials (mainly truck inner tubes) Each participant was provided with their own ‘sign’ patch onto which they stitched, cut out, appliquéd a symbol of their choice or from the pictures provided. Each successfully completed ‘sign’ patch was joined together and exchanged for a raffle ticket, into which the participants were entered into a hat, gaining a possibility of winning the ‘Tarmat’ at the end of the festival. Message: “We each have a part to play – recycling for the future”
